A Bridge Over Troubled Waters

Daffodil Encouragements|LadybugCard.Com|Custom CardMy husband and I have now reached what many young people would consider the “ripe” old age of sixty.  Empty-nesters(sometimes they come back), retirees, and still able to get around physically, if not as quick limbered mentally.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not dismayed by my age.   I just find it incredible that now that I am sixty, I feel I am finally learning what I knew before, but was unable to grasp fully.  Sayings like “You don’t miss your water, until the well runs dry”, and “like a bridge over troubled waters” take on new meanings, inclusive of the old, but with far greater import.

Reflection, they say (whomever they are) is good for the soul.  I can’t deny that it does open you up to the miscues or mistakes that you made.  Sometimes, the reruns of our lives are edited, showing only our mistakes and not our successes.  It could be that our successes are overlooked by us because we wanted everything we did to be a success, and when it did not happen, we placed that failure, that missed opportunity in the memory box to come out first upon reflection.   What if we changed how we view things?  Instead of seeing those memories as failures, mistakes, or lost opportunities, see them as positive change agents.

Positive Change Agents(PCA) occurred when an adjustment was needed in your life. PCAs are dynamic and fluid.  They do not end when you retire from work, nor do they end when you die.  Many times the changes that take place in our lives, will affect the lives of others long after we have left this world.  Did you fail to get a promotion or even a job interview?  Instead of viewing it as a failure, consider the positives, you were given more time to research and prepare or you realized that you were where  you were supposed to be.  By looking at it positively, you have experienced growth.

Jesus wants us to be PCAs.  Remembering that our attitude towards a situation or circumstance will go in our memory files as either a failure or success.  The older I get, the more I view my past in terms of PCAs.  In Matthew the fifth chapter, verses 3-12,  Jesus said:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
    For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
    For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
    For they shall see God

Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Encourage someone today!  Be a  PCA (Positive Change Agent).

Until next time, remember it’s gonna be alright!
